Fall Beauty Prep, Pricing Transparency, and the Rise of the Beauty “De-influencer”
Two things have been on my mind this week: how much client skin prep changes as we head into fall, and the ongoing shift toward beauty content that tells people what not to buy instead of what to buy. I think the second one is actually good for an industry that needed it.
What’s actually working in skincare right now
As the air dries out, I’m recommending clients add back in a facial oil at night, something they likely dropped over the summer. A client who reintroduced one two weeks before her trial had noticeably less flaking around the nose and mouth by the day of, which is exactly where foundation shows texture first.
U Beauty’s formulas have worked well for clients layering actives and hydration without irritation. That balance matters more in fall, when skin is adjusting to a real temperature and humidity shift.
The look right now
Fall makeup requests are leaning into definition again, more structured brows, a defined lip, after a few years of “your skin but better” minimalism. I don’t think one replaces the other, they’re just different tools for different occasions, and I tell clients that directly instead of pushing them toward whatever’s trending.
The beauty business
Pricing transparency keeps paying off. I mentioned this a few weeks back, but it’s worth repeating: putting my day rate in the first email instead of gatekeeping it behind a consult call has meant fewer wasted calls and more clients who book with realistic expectations from the start.
The new PR playbook
The “de-influencer” wave, creators recommending what to skip instead of what to buy, has actually made my job easier. Clients are arriving at consults more skeptical and better informed, which means better conversations about what their skin and their day actually need, instead of chasing a product because someone told them to buy it.
The takeaway
That’s what’s actually on my mind heading into fall. If you’ve got a wedding coming up or you’re just recalibrating your own routine for the season, I’d love to hear where you’re starting. Comments are open, and the full review archive is always at danilevibeauty.com.
